How do you make a Major chord?
A major chord is made up of two-thirds stacked on each other.
C to E is three notes away and in music, we call that a 3rd.
Look:
C-1
D-2
E-3
Then we stack another third on top of that.
E-1
F-2
G-3
So the C Major triad is: C E G
G-5
E-3
C-1
TIP: You can use the sayings Every Good Boy Deserves Fruit and FACE to figure out any chords triad as this whole saying is made up of thirds.
EGBDFACE. and it loops.
EGBDFACEGBDFACE….etc
So if we need the F chords triad it’s the FAC out of FACE.
The only thing we have to be aware of is how many sharps or flats are in the major key of that chord.
So we will have to learn how to memorize our sharps and flats. Let’s do that in the next lesson.
